North Island College,
Comox Valley Campus,2010
$7.0 Million – 27,000 sq.ft.
Long linear shed roofs shelter workshop spaces, classrooms and offices organized along a central circulation spine. The building showcases glulam timber structure and local fir and cedar finishes. The passive ventilation strategy which contributes to the building’s energy efficiency is driven by stack effect operating in the dramatic central spine. The College is seeking LEED Gold accreditation for this project. The facility will require only 20% of the energy of a standard building, and will incorporate roof-top solar photovoltaic panels.
